Suspend Free SHS Bill for Broader Consultation – NAGRAT, EduWatch Urge.

Two major stakeholders, the National Association of Graduate Teachers (NAGRAT) and Africa Education Watch (EduWatch), are calling for the suspension of the proposed Free SHS Bill. They argue that the bill, which seeks to provide legal backing for free senior high school education, lacks sufficient stakeholder consultation.NAGRAT’s President, Angel Carbonu, criticized the timing of the bill, saying it was “morally wrong” for Parliament to pass laws during its final sittings. He suggested the new Parliament should revisit the bill with extensive input from stakeholders.EduWatch echoed this, emphasizing the need for inclusivity and transparency. They urged the Education Minister to engage teachers, parents, and education experts before resubmitting the bill to Parliament.
