The Academic Staff Union of Universities, Enugu State University of Science and Technology branch, has called for an urgent review of staff salaries, declaring that lecturers’ welfare is a fundamental right, not a privilege. The union said academics at the institution deserve a pay structure aligned with national benchmarks and the 25–35 per cent wage awards already implemented in other universities.​ ASUU argued that university teachers have endured the same salary scale for about 16 years despite repeated currency devaluations and soaring inflation.
