Dr. Frank Amoakohene Leads Operation to Protect Natural Resources
On March 21, 2025, Dr. Frank Amoakohene, the Ashanti Regional Minister, led a successful operation against illegal mining activities in the New Ebudiase area along the Pra River. The operation was carried out by the Regional Anti-Galamsey Taskforce, which includes agencies such as National Security, Police, Mineral Commission, and the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).During the operation, the taskforce seized 7 excavators, demobilized 5 more, and confiscated other equipment including 2 generators, 2 motorbikes, and pump-action guns. These items were taken to the Regional Coordinating Council (RCC) for further action, reinforcing the government’s zero-tolerance approach to illegal mining, known as galamsey.Dr. Amoakohene reiterated the government’s commitment to responsible mining practices.
