Geneva Talks Resume as Strikes Intensify

Russian and Ukrainian delegations are meeting in Geneva for another round of negotiations mediated by the United States, just days before the fourth anniversary of Moscow’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine in 2022. Hopes for a major diplomatic breakthrough remain limited. Moscow has continued to insist on sweeping territorial concessions, while Kyiv has rejected any proposal that would formalize the loss of its land. Fighting on the ground has shown no sign of easing. In the hours before talks began in Switzerland, Russia launched a large-scale aerial assault across 12 Ukrainian regions, deploying roughly 400 drones and nearly 30 missiles. At least three people were reported killed. Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha said the scale of the attack demonstrated Russia’s disregard for ongoing peace efforts. Russian officials, meanwhile, stated that air defence systems intercepted more than 150 Ukrainian drones. Authorities also […]

Navalny’s mother says poisoning confirms murder

The mother of Russian opposition leader Alexei Navalny says new findings on the cause of his death confirm her conviction that her son was killed. Over the weekend, the United Kingdom and several European allies issued a joint statement asserting that Navalny, who died in 2024, was poisoned with a substance derived from a toxin associated with dart frogs. According to the statement, only the Russian state possessed the capability, motive and opportunity to deploy such a lethal agent. Speaking on Monday at her son’s grave in Moscow, marking the second anniversary of his death, Lyudmila Navalnaya said the assessment validated what the family had believed from the outset. She stated that her son did not die naturally in prison but was murdered. Russian authorities have rejected the allegation. Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov described the accusations as biased and unfounded, […]

Russia open to new nuclear talks as treaty lapses

Russia says it still wants dialogue with the United States on limiting nuclear weapons, even as their last major arms control treaty, New START, expires without a replacement. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said Moscow regretted the end of the treaty but remained prepared to talk if Washington gave a constructive response to President Vladimir Putin’s proposal to keep key limits for one more year. The plan would see both sides continue to respect caps on deployed strategic warheads, missiles and launchers even though the full treaty can no longer be legally extended. New START, signed in 2010 by then presidents Barack Obama and Dmitry Medvedev, was the final accord in a series of US Russia nuclear arms agreements dating back over 50 years to the Cold War. Besides capping arsenals, it allowed on site inspections that experts say built trust […]

Kremlin dismisses claim Epstein was Russian spy

The Kremlin has mocked suggestions that late US financier and convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein secretly worked as a Russian spy. Poland has said it will investigate Epstein’s alleged ties to Russian intelligence after the latest release of millions of documents from the so called Epstein files. Asked if Epstein was a Russian agent, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said he was tempted to make many jokes about the idea but did not want to waste time on it. The newly released files show Epstein repeatedly spoke of wanting to meet President Vladimir Putin, although there is no evidence that such a meeting ever took place. Peskov has previously said the Kremlin never received any request from Epstein, who died in a US jail in 2019 while awaiting trial on sex trafficking charges. Putin’s name appears often in the latest batch […]

Kremlin open to multiple Ukraine talks with US

The Kremlin has said Russia is ready to hold as many rounds of talks with the United States as necessary on the war in Ukraine following recent high-level contacts between the two countries. Presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters that no single meeting could solve all issues, but stressed that Moscow was prepared to continue discussions if Washington showed “political will” to seek a settlement. Peskov repeated Russia’s position that any negotiations must take account of what it calls “new realities on the ground”, a reference to Ukrainian territories claimed and occupied by Russian forces. He also argued that the involvement of the US and other Western states in supplying weapons to Kyiv was prolonging the conflict, while insisting that Moscow remained open to dialogue on security guarantees and broader stability in Europe. The comments come amid renewed diplomatic activity […]
