Mustapha Gbande Denies Role in Ablekuma North Violence
On July 12, 2025, Mustapha Gbande, Deputy General Secretary of the NDC, rejected accusations made by Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo‑Markin, denying any role in inciting or directing violence during the Ablekuma North by-election rerun held on July 11. Key Denials & Defence Gbande labelled the claims as “false, reckless, and politically motivated,” stressing he had no involvement or prior knowledge of the violence recorded across 19 polling stations. He clarified that though he was present in the constituency as part of routine monitoring, he was not at the scene during the altercation involving former MP Mavis Hawa Koomson, and instead assisted by evacuating her to a hospital .
