China tells US its containment strategy is bound to fail

China has warned that United States efforts to contain its rise are doomed to fail, even as Beijing says it is willing to work with Washington to improve relations. Iran not seeking war but fully prepared, says minister

Iran’s foreign minister says the country does not want war but is fully prepared to fight if necessary. He also says Tehran is open to talks with the United States if negotiations are fair and based on mutual respect.​ Abbas Araghchi told a gathering of foreign ambassadors in Tehran that Iran is ready for both conflict and diplomacy.  China says US is trying to block closer India ties

China has accused the United States of twisting its defence policy in an effort to block closer ties between Beijing and New Delhi. Foreign ministry spokesperson Lin Jian made the remarks in Beijing while reacting to a U.S. Pentagon report on China’s approach to India. The report suggested China may seek to use easing border tensions with India to curb the growth of U.S.–India relations. Lin said China views its relationship with India from a long term and strategic perspective. He added that the border issue is strictly a matter between the two neighbours. He said China opposes any outside country commenting on or interfering in the border dispute. Lin also rejected what he called U.S. attempts to misrepresent China’s defence policy.

Iran insists missile programme is defensive

Iran has declared that its missile programme is strictly defensive and will not be discussed in any negotiations with foreign governments. Foreign ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei said the country’s missiles were built to protect Iran’s territory and sovereignty, not to threaten others.​ Baghaei dismissed calls from Western countries to place limits on Iran’s missile activities, insisting that the issue lies entirely within Iran’s national security domain.
