Gen Musa: How coup attempt was foiled at planning stage

Defence Minister General Christopher Musa has revealed how Nigerian security agencies foiled a planned coup at the “planning stage”, describing the plotters as a disgruntled group led by a colonel who failed promotion to brigadier general.​ Speaking on Channels Television, Musa said the officer, angered by his failure to meet promotion requirements, began mobilising other aggrieved elements within the Armed Forces, but joint monitoring by the Defence Intelligence Agency (DIA), National Intelligence Agency (NIA), Department of State Services (DSS) and other security outfits exposed the plot early. China calls for closer defence ties with Russia in ministers’ talks

China’s defence minister Dong Jun has called for closer military cooperation with Russia during talks with his Russian counterpart held by video conference on Tuesday. Dong said China is ready to work with Russia to put into action the key agreements made by the leaders of both countries. He stressed the need to strengthen strategic coordination between their militaries and to improve their ability to handle shared risks and security challenges. According to Chinese state news agency Xinhua, Dong also urged both sides to deepen practical cooperation and improve their channels of communication.
