NLC Urges Dangote to Permit Workers’ Union Membership
The Lagos State chapter of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has appealed to Dangote Industries Limited to allow its employees to join labour unions, saying it is key to safeguarding their rights and improving workplace conditions. The appeal was made on Tuesday by the Lagos NLC Chairperson, Mrs. Funmi Sesi, during a tour of the Dangote Petroleum Refinery and Dangote Fertiliser Plant by officials of the union and members of the Labour Writers Association of Nigeria. Speaking on behalf of NLC President, Comrade Joe Ajaero, Sesi said unionisation would not only give workers a collective voice but also help the company address employee concerns more effectively. “Dangote, please give us a chance to unionise your workers,” she said.
