FG designates Ikom Dam as strategic national asset

Army troops rescue 18 passengers from sea pirates off Cameroon coast

Troops of the Nigerian Army’s 13 Brigade have rescued 18 passengers, including two infants, after suspected sea pirates hijacked a passenger boat on the Nigeria Cameroon route. The attack happened on January 11 near Kombo Fishing Port within Cameroonian waters while the boat was travelling from Nigeria to Cameroon.​ Army spokesperson Major Yemi Sokoya said the pirates, operating in two speed boats and a wooden boat, seized the passenger vessel and abducted all those on board. Soldiers deployed to Ikang responded quickly to a distress call, pursued the attackers and engaged them in a gun battle.​ During the firefight, one of the pirates’ speed boats capsized, forcing the attackers to abandon the kidnapped passengers and flee into nearby creeks.
