Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshal Sunday Aneke, says any member of the Armed Forces found involved in plans to overthrow Nigeria’s democratic government will face the full wrath of the law. Nollywood actor Stanley Amandi held over alleged coup plot

Nollywood actor and director Stanley Amandi has been arrested alongside several military officers over an alleged plot to overthrow President Bola Tinubu’s government. A source in the Actors Guild of Nigeria said Amandi, a former chairman of the guild’s Enugu State chapter, was picked up in September 2025. He was allegedly recruited by the suspected plotters to work as a media propagandist and help drive their messages. According to government officials familiar with the probe, the accused officers are believed to have planned a violent seizure of power. Military should have apologised after denying coup plot – Falana

Human rights lawyer Femi Falana, SAN, has faulted the Nigerian military for failing to apologise to citizens after initially denying any coup plot, only to later confirm that some officers would face trial over an alleged scheme to overthrow the government. He said people in authority must learn to take Nigerians seriously and correct themselves publicly when previous statements turn out to be misleading.​ Falana recalled that in October 2025 the military dismissed claims linking the cancellation of the Independence Day parade to a coup plot as “false and malicious” and capable of creating unnecessary tension.
