Samira Bawumia, wife of Ghana’s Vice-President, has called for greater efforts in promoting clean cooking practices across homes and institutions. Speaking during the commissioning of a modern institutional kitchen at the Nkoranza Technical Institute in the Bono East Region, she stressed the urgent need for action to reduce the health risks posed by traditional cooking methods.She highlighted that the use of firewood and other unclean fuels is responsible for over 20,000 premature deaths annually in Ghana, mainly due to non-communicable diseases such as stroke, heart disease, and lung cancer.
