Fed Govt begins implementing salary agreement with ASUU

The Federal Government has begun implementing key welfare provisions in its 2025 renegotiated agreement with the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU). Education Minister Maruf Tunji Alausa said the government has fulfilled its obligation to implement a 40 percent increase in the Consolidated Academic Allowance (CAA) for ASUU members, effective from January 1, 2026. He explained that some federal universities have already reflected the new rates in lecturers’ pay, while others are being directed to fully cascade the approved increment across their payroll so all eligible academic staff benefit. The minister added that the increase has been captured and circularised by the National Salaries, Incomes and Wages Commission and that its inclusion in the 2026 budget is now a formal statutory process.
