Syrian government security forces have moved into the Kurdish‑run city of Hasakah in northeast Syria under a new U.S. backed ceasefire deal that paves the way for Kurdish regions to be merged back under Damascus’ control. The agreement, announced on Friday, averted further fighting between President Ahmed al Sharaa’s government and the Kurdish led Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), which lost large parts of eastern and northern territory to government troops in January.
