Chairman Wontumi Remains in Custody Despite Meeting Bail Conditions

Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi and the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), continues to be held in custody by the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) despite meeting stringent bail conditions. A new legal application has emerged, preventing his immediate release. BackgroundChairman Wontumi was arrested on May 27, 2025, by EOCO on allegations of fraud, money laundering, and other financial crimes. He was granted bail set at GH₵50 million, requiring two justified sureties. Initially, his legal team struggled to meet these conditions, securing only one surety until May 30.
