Israeli fire kills three in Gaza as US pushes to advance deal

Israeli fire killed three Palestinians in two separate incidents in the Gaza Strip on Sunday, local health authorities have said. Medics reported that at least two people died east of the Tuffah neighbourhood in northern Gaza, while a 41‑year‑old man was killed by Israeli forces in Khan Younis in the south. Earlier, medical workers said an Israeli drone exploded on the rooftop of a multi‑storey building in Gaza City, wounding four civilians in the street below. The Israeli military did not immediately comment on any of the reported incidents. The violence comes as U.S. envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner push to advance a Gaza deal in meetings with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. Witkoff said their talks, held on Saturday, were “constructive and positive”, with both sides aligned on next steps and on the importance of continued cooperation on […]

Thailand, Cambodia agree border ceasefire after weeks of clashes

Thailand and Cambodia have signed a ceasefire deal to end weeks of armed clashes along their shared border over disputed territory. The agreement, which took effect at noon local time, aims to halt hostilities and calm tensions in the area. Under the terms, both countries have pledged to stop all fighting, avoid new military movements and refrain from violating each other’s airspace for military purposes. The measures are intended to prevent fresh flare ups while political and military dialogue continues. The ceasefire also requires Thailand to repatriate 18 Cambodian soldiers captured in earlier fighting in July once the truce has held for 72 hours. Their release has been one of Cambodia’s key demands in recent talks. The agreement was signed at a border checkpoint by Cambodian defence minister Tea Seiha and his Thai counterpart Nattaphon Narkphanit. It followed three days […]

Gazans fear new displacement after Israeli strikes

Residents of southern Gaza say they fear being pushed from their homes again after new Israeli strikes hit neighbourhoods near a demarcation known as the Yellow Line. The line, east of Khan Yunis, was created under a ceasefire deal between Israel and Hamas and marks an area where Israeli troops still control movement through checkpoints. Tens of thousands of Gazans still live in tents or damaged houses in communities close to the Yellow Line more than two years into the war. Many now worry that continued bombardment is an attempt to force them to move westward into already overcrowded camps where food, water and basic supplies are scarce. “We do not sleep at night because of fear. The bombardments in the east are relentless,” said Umm Ahmed, a 40 year old mother from Bani Suheila whose home was destroyed earlier […]

Israeli airstrikes hit targets across Lebanon

Israel has launched a new wave of strikes on southern and eastern Lebanon, hitting several locations that the Israeli military says are linked to Hezbollah. Lebanon’s state run National News Agency reported multiple strikes on mountainous areas in both regions. The Israeli military said its forces targeted what it described as “terror infrastructure sites” in different parts of Lebanon. It said the targets included “a military compound used by Hezbollah to conduct training and courses” for members of the Iran backed group. In a separate statement, the army said its forces “a short while ago” struck a Hezbollah fighter in the Taybeh area of southern Lebanon. No details were given about casualties from that strike or the wider series of attacks. The latest strikes come despite a ceasefire agreement reached in November 2024 that was meant to end more than […]

Cambodia Says Thailand Still Bombing Despite Trump Ceasefire Claim

Cambodia’s Ministry of Defence says Thailand is still carrying out air strikes inside its territory, contradicting a ceasefire announcement made by US President Donald Trump. The statement comes amid an ongoing flare up in a long running border dispute between the two neighbours. According to the ministry, Thai forces deployed two F 16 fighter jets on Saturday to drop seven bombs on several locations in Cambodian territory. Officials said the strikes hit areas including hotels and bridges in the Thmor Da region of Pursat province, which borders Thailand. Local outlet Khmer Times, citing Cambodia’s Ministry of Information, reported that two hotels and casino structures suffered heavy damage in the attacks. Cambodian authorities said the bombings prove that Thai forces “have not yet ceased their bombing and are still conducting attacks”. These claims emerged only hours after President Trump said Thailand […]

US envoy to meet Putin over Ukraine war talks

A senior United States envoy is scheduled to meet Russian President Vladimir Putin in Moscow for high‑level talks focused on efforts to end the war in Ukraine. According to US officials, the visit is part of renewed diplomatic contacts aimed at exploring conditions for a possible ceasefire and a broader political settlement, while reaffirming support for Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity. The envoy is expected to raise issues such as security guarantees, withdrawal of Russian forces, prisoner exchanges, and protection of civilian infrastructure, alongside discussions on how any agreement could be monitored and enforced. Russian authorities have signalled that they are willing to listen to proposals but insist that any negotiations must reflect what they describe as “realities on the ground”, including territories currently under Russian control. Western allies are being briefed on the mission, and Washington has stressed that […]

Trump Sends Witkoff to Moscow in Hopes of Finalizing Ukraine Deal

Donald Trump announced he’s sending his envoy, Steve Witkoff, and possibly Jared Kushner, to Moscow next week for talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin, aiming to finalize a peace agreement to end the Ukraine war. According to Trump, only a few disagreements remain, though European leaders remain skeptical amid ongoing Russian missile strikes on Ukraine. The original US-brokered 28-point plan—seen as favoring Moscow—sparked alarm in Kyiv and across Europe. However, a new version, developed with input from European allies, has incorporated more Ukrainian interests, including a higher cap on Ukraine’s military size and omitting a ban on future NATO membership. The official familiar with the changes calls the plan “significantly better” and says talks with the Russians remain cautiously optimistic. French President Emmanuel Macron and others have voiced doubts about Russia’s willingness for a deal, while US negotiator Dan Driscoll […]

Ukraine-Russia War: Ukraine Calls for Trump-Zelensky Meeting in US This Week

Ukraine’s national security chief says Kyiv hopes to arrange a US visit for President Volodymyr Zelensky this month to complete a peace agreement with President Donald Trump. A US official told the BBC that Ukraine has “agreed to a peace deal”—though some details still need sorting out. The White House has not confirmed talks, but US and Russian representatives are set to meet in Abu Dhabi to discuss the plan. After fierce criticism from Europe, counter-proposals drafted by the UK, France, and Germany modified the initial US plan, removing recognition of Russian-held territories, allowing Ukraine a larger army, and keeping the door open to NATO membership. Zelensky welcomed these changes, calling the plan “doable,” and noting: “Many correct elements have been incorporated.” Despite ongoing negotiations, the war rages on. At least six people were killed overnight in Russian strikes on […]

Iran Slams Israel Killing of Hezbollah Military Chief

Iran has sharply condemned Israel following the assassination of Hezbollah’s senior military leader in Lebanon, calling it a direct breach of both international law and a November 2024 ceasefire agreement. Iranian officials described the attack as a “brutal breach of Lebanon’s national sovereignty” and accused Israel of deliberately escalating regional instability. State media quotes Iran’s Foreign Ministry calling for international accountability for Israel’s actions and expressing unwavering support for Hezbollah. Israeli officials claimed the killing was in response to repeated ceasefire violations by Hezbollah and said it was necessary to prevent future attacks against Israel. The incident has heightened regional fears, with Iran threatening consequences and reiterating that it will stand by its allies in Lebanon. The episode comes amid ongoing hostilities and tit-for-tat operations in the Middle East, highlighting deepening divisions after the deadly October 7 attacks.

WHO To Vaccinate 40,000 Children in Gaza Amid Ceasefire

The World Health Organization (WHO) announced its plan to vaccinate over 40,000 children in Gaza as a ceasefire allows intensified humanitarian operations. In phase one of the campaign, more than 10,000 children under age three were vaccinated against measles, mumps, rubella, diphtheria, tetanus, whooping cough, hepatitis B, tuberculosis, polio, rotavirus, and pneumonia. Phase one, which started November 9, is being extended; phases two and three are expected in December and January, jointly run with UNICEF, UNRWA, and Gaza authorities. WHO chief Tedros Ghebreyesus said the truce enables expanded health services and vital reconstruction for Gaza’s devastated health system. The UN Security Council recently endorsed the ceasefire plan, brokered by US President Donald Trump, following two years of hostilities that claimed thousands of lives, with over half the deaths in Gaza reported as women and minors.
