Mahama Appoints Brigadier General William Agyapong as New Chief of Defence Staff

President John Dramani Mahama has appointed Brigadier General William Agyapong as the new Acting Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) of the Ghana Armed Forces. The appointment, effective from March 24, 2025, replaces Lieutenant General Thomas Oppong-Peprah, who served in the role since February 1, 2024.The change is part of a broader reshuffle in the military’s leadership, which includes key appointments for other top positions within the armed forces. Brigadier General Lawrence Kwaku Gbetanu has been appointed Acting Chief of Army Staff, while Commodore Godwin Livinus Bessing takes over as Acting Chief of Naval Staff.
