CSO Asks Tinubu To Redeploy Communications Minister Over Bandits Comment
A civil society organisation has called on President Bola Tinubu to redeploy the Minister of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, Bosun Tijani, following his public remarks on how bandits use telecommunications systems to evade tracking. The group expressed concern that the minister’s explanations could embolden criminals and downplay government responsibility in closing security loopholes. Tijani had stated on a television programme that bandits and terrorists exploit poor network coverage and employ sophisticated “call hopping” technology, bouncing calls off multiple towers in remote areas to avoid detection. He also suggested that some widely held claims about unregistered SIM cards remain unverified and technically complex.
