Ada East Assembly fails to confirm President’s DCE nominee

The Ada East Municipal Assembly in the Greater Accra Region on Thursday, May 8, 2025, failed to confirm Kenneth Kabu Kanor, the President’s nominee for the position of District Chief Executive (DCE).Mr Kanor polled 24 votes out of 38 valid votes cast, representing 63.2 per cent, in a process that extended into the night. One vote was rejected, while 13 members voted against him. The nominee required 26 votes to meet the two-thirds threshold necessary for confirmation.By law, the assembly members are expected to reconvene within ten days for a second round of voting to either confirm or reject the nominee. Child damages €50million painting in museum

A child has damaged a painting worth millions of pounds by the American artist Mark Rothko at a museum in Rotterdam.A spokesperson for the Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen said it was considering the "next steps" for the treatment of Rothko's Grey, Orange on Maroon, No. 8. The damage occurred during an "unguarded moment", a museum spokesperson told the Dutch media outlet Algemeen Dagblad (AD) last week.A spokesperson for the museum told the BBC the damage was "superficial", adding: "Small scratches are visible in the unvarnished paint layer in the lower part of the painting". UK deports 43 immigration offenders to Ghana and Nigeria

The group included 15 failed asylum seekers and 11 foreign nationals who had completed prison sentences in the UK. Seven of the individuals reportedly returned voluntarily. Bank of Ghana to begin cryptocurrency regulation by September — Governor Asiama

Speaking at the African Leaders and Partners Forum in Washington, D.C., held on the margins of the IMF/World Bank Spring Meetings, Dr Asiama said the move is pending the passage of the much-anticipated Virtual Asset Providers Act, which will formally empower the BoG to license and supervise operations in the digital asset space.
