Bimbilla Yam Traders Resist Relocation Despite Assembly’s Efforts.
Yam traders in Bimbilla’s old market are resisting a relocation to a new site, opposing the Nanumba North Municipal Assembly's plan to reduce congestion. Traders cite unfulfilled promises, including electricity, security, potable water, a mosque, clinic, and paved inner roads, as reasons for their resistance.Yussif Jarigoogi, a member of the Yam Committee, noted that Bimbilla's yam market generates substantial revenue, which he claims the assembly has yet to reinvest in infrastructure improvements. Municipal Chief Executive Alhaji Abdulai Yaquob urged traders to move and warned of enforced relocation if they continue to resist. He emphasized that the decision was made by the Assembly, not as a personal directive.
