Army neutralises top bandit kingpin Kachalla Kallamu in Sokoto

Troops of the Nigerian Army’s 8 Division in Sokoto have neutralised a notorious bandit kingpin, Kachalla Kallamu, during an operation in Sabon Birnin Local Government Area. A senior military source in Sokoto, who spoke on condition of anonymity, described the development as a major breakthrough in ongoing counter banditry efforts.​ According to the source, Kallamu a close ally and senior lieutenant of infamous bandit leader Bello Turji was taken out in a joint operation carried out with local vigilante groups. The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) has dismissed reports that notorious bandit leader Bello Turji has surrendered to the military. Director of Defence Media Operations, Maj. Gen. Markus Kangye, clarified the situation on Thursday in Abuja while briefing journalists on the Armed Forces’ recent activities. “Simple answer to the question about terrorist leader, Bello Turji: Turji has not surrendered. We are still on the lookout for him,” Kangye said.
