Alleged N8.7b fraud: Court grants Malami, wife, son N200m bail each
A Federal High Court in Abuja has granted bail to former Attorney General of the Federation Abubakar Malami, his wife Asabe Bashir and his son Abdulaziz in the alleged N8.7 billion fraud case filed against them by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission. The trio are accused of laundering about N8.7 billion through the purchase of properties in Abuja and other parts of Nigeria while Malami served as Minister of Justice. They have all pleaded not guilty to the amended charges. In an earlier ruling on their bail application, Justice Emeka Nwite admitted each of the defendants to bail in the sum of N500 million with two sureties in the same amount, who must own verifiable properties in highbrow areas of Abuja such as Maitama or Gwarinpa.
