Iran urges UN Security Council to act to stop war with US and Israel
Iran has called on the United Nations Security Council to take urgent action to halt what it describes as a “war” waged against it by the United States and Israel. Tehran’s appeal came after days of heavy US Israeli airstrikes that killed Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and other senior officials, followed by Iranian missile and drone attacks across the region, including on a US embassy in Saudi Arabia. In a statement at UN headquarters, Iran’s permanent representative Amir Saeid Iravani said the council “must act firmly, clearly and without ambiguity” against the military strikes on Iranian territory.
