ASUU Rejects FG Loan Offer, Calls It a Greek Gift

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), University of Lagos (UNILAG) chapter, has rejected the federal government’s loan proposal for lecturers, describing it as a “Greek gift.” During a special congress held on campus Tuesday, the union said its members were not interested in loans but in the fulfillment of existing welfare agreements. If we are paid a living wage and our allowances are settled as agreed, no one will need to borrow money. Let the government do the […]

The Yola Zone of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has called on the Federal Government to suspend the establishment of nine newly approved universities until existing institutions are adequately funded and equipped. Represented by Dr. Mbave Joshua, Chairman of ASUU at Taraba State University, Mamman argued that the Federal Government has continued to ignore the 2009 ASUU-FGN agreement, which prioritised revitalisation of current universities through sustainable funding. Instead, he said, classrooms remain overcrowded, laboratories obsolete, and infrastructure in decay. ASUU also rejected the recently introduced Tertiary Institutions Staff Support Fund (TISSF), describing it as a “debt trap” that would […]
