Nigerian Army warns public about fake social media accounts impersonating COAS
The Nigerian Army has warned the public about fake social media accounts created by fraudsters claiming to represent the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu. The alert was issued in a statement on Friday by Army spokesperson Colonel Apollonia Anele. Anele clarified that the Chief of Army Staff does not operate any official social media account on any platform. She urged Nigerians to be extremely cautious and vigilant so they do not fall victim to scams using Shaibu’s name or the Nigerian Army’s image. The Army explained that the operators of these fake accounts may try to defraud people, solicit funds or spread false information while pretending to speak for the COAS.
