ECG Boss Addresses Power Crisis Amid Maintenance-Related Shutdowns.
The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has clarified the reasons behind recent power outages (dumsor), addressing concerns about financial constraints affecting Independent Power Producers (IPPs). Acting ECG Managing Director, Ing. David Asamoah, explained that Amandi Energy’s shutdown is due to scheduled annual maintenance, not debt-related issues, as speculated. He noted that negotiations to delay Amandi’s maintenance were unsuccessful due to insurance stipulations. Additionally, Sunon Asogli power plant ceased operations in October, while other IPPs like Karpowership Energy, AKSA Energy, and Cenit Energy Limited have reduced output.Karpowership is currently addressing technical challenges, including a pressure control valve fault. Ing. Asamoah assured the public that power supply would stabilize soon, highlighting that ongoing issues are technical, not financial.
