FG Bans Production, Sale of Alcohol in Sachets, Small Bottles
The Federal Government has officially banned the production, sale, and distribution of alcoholic beverages packaged in sachets and bottles below 200ml, with full enforcement beginning January 1, 2026. NAFDAC Director-General Prof. Mojisola Adeyeye cited the move as essential to curb alcohol abuse, particularly among youth and commercial drivers. Over 1,000 personnel will be recruited for NAFDAC to enforce the ban. The decision follows Senate and Ministry of Health directives, targeting spirit drinks in sachets and small bottles, but not all alcoholic beverages. The ban aims to reduce addiction, domestic violence, accidents, and crime linked to cheap, unregulated alcohol. Producers, distributors, and retailers must comply with the December 2025 deadline.
