Questions trail NAF aircraft’s onward flight to Portugal
Fresh questions have emerged over the onward journey of the Nigerian Air Force C 130 aircraft that made an emergency landing in Burkina Faso while heading to Portugal for maintenance. Although officials earlier said the plane and its 11 man crew had been cleared to continue their mission, there is still no clear public confirmation on when it actually departed Bobo Dioulasso for Europe. The aircraft was on a ferry mission to Portugal on 8 December when the crew detected a technical fault after takeoff from Lagos and carried out a precautionary landing in Bobo Dioulasso, in line with international aviation safety procedures. Burkina Faso authorities subsequently held the plane and personnel, claiming an airspace violation, which triggered a diplomatic row and heightened regional tensions.
