Nollywood actor Stanley Amandi held over alleged coup plot

Nollywood actor and director Stanley Amandi has been arrested alongside several military officers over an alleged plot to overthrow President Bola Tinubu’s government. A source in the Actors Guild of Nigeria said Amandi, a former chairman of the guild’s Enugu State chapter, was picked up in September 2025. He was allegedly recruited by the suspected plotters to work as a media propagandist and help drive their messages. According to government officials familiar with the probe, the accused officers are believed to have planned a violent seizure of power. President Tinubu, Vice President Kashim Shettima, Senate President Godswill Akpabio and House Speaker Tajudeen Abbas were reportedly marked for assassination. On Monday, the Defence Headquarters confirmed that an unlawful attempt to remove the Tinubu administration had been uncovered. It said the implicated officers would face trial before military judicial panels after investigations […]

AGN president urges CAN to reconsider stance on Ini Edo’s A Very Dirty Christmas

Outgoing Actors Guild of Nigeria president, Dr Ejezie Emeka Rollas, has called for calm and constructive dialogue between the Christian Association of Nigeria and the creative industry over reactions to Ini Edo’s film A Very Dirty Christmas. CAN had described the movie’s title as offensive to Christianity. Rollas argued that the title is not an insult to the Christian faith but a metaphorical and creative expression. He said it was intended to reflect the complex and sometimes messy realities that can surround the Christmas season, not to mock or trivialise Christian beliefs. In a statement, he noted that a full viewing of the film shows no scenes that ridicule or undermine Christianity. According to him, criticisms based only on the title would benefit from a more complete engagement with the movie itself. Rollas stressed that Christmas remains a sacred season […]

Emeka Rollas cautions actors on social media disputes

Outgoing national president of the Actors Guild of Nigeria, Emeka Rollas, has warned Nollywood actors against using social media to air grievances and fight personal battles. In an official notice shared on Instagram, Rollas said the Guild will sanction members who call out colleagues, drag others online or turn social media into a courtroom, in line with AGN’s constitution and disciplinary procedures. He stressed that so‑called social media trials do not bring justice but instead deepen divisions, spread misinformation and damage the image and integrity of Nollywood. He urged actors to use recognised internal channels, committees and processes to resolve disputes. Rollas appealed to actors to support the incoming AGN leadership by showing good conduct, restraint and professionalism both online and offline. As he prepares to hand over on January 29, 2026, he said he does not want the new […]

Nollywood actress Shirley Igwe has responded to the Actors Guild of Nigeria’s decision to lift her suspension, expressing gratitude to the guild’s leadership and pledging to uphold higher professional standards going forward. Her reinstatement follows a review of disciplinary measures imposed after a reported violent incident on a Lagos movie set in July 2025. The AGN’s National Executive Council had earlier announced that Igwe was cleared to resume all filming and guild-related activities with effect from October 19, 2025, after concluding its investigation. Welcoming her back, the guild urged her to maintain emotional composure, exercise restraint and avoid conduct that could bring the profession into disrepute. Reacting to the development, Igwe said she accepted the NEC’s guidance and was committed to improving communication and conflict management on set. She thanked colleagues and fans who stood by her during the suspension […]
