NASS moves to clear air on disputed gazetted tax laws
The National Assembly has announced steps to clarify alleged discrepancies between versions of recently passed tax laws and the copies already gazetted and circulated to the public.It has directed the Clerk of the National Assembly to release certified true copies of all tax bills signed by President Bola Tinubu, including the certificate pages, so Nigerians can review and verify the documents themselves. Officials said the move responds to public concerns after a lawmaker, Abdulsamad Dasuki, claimed that the texts passed by the two chambers differ from the gazetted versions of the Nigeria Tax Act, Nigerian Tax Administration Act, National Revenue Service Act and Joint Revenue Board Act.The House of Representatives had earlier set up a seven member committee to investigate the alleged changes and ordered the re gazetting of the tax laws, but its report is still pending.
