Japan: Woman arrested for hiding daughter’s body in freezer for 20 years

Japanese police have arrested a 75-year-old woman who admitted to keeping her daughter’s body in a freezer for nearly two decades. Police in Ibaraki prefecture, northeast of Tokyo, said investigators discovered the remains on Tuesday after the suspect, identified as Keiko Mori, came forward with a relative to report her actions. The body, dressed in a T-shirt and underwear, was found kneeling face-down inside a deep freezer in her home. Police believe the deceased to be Makiko, Mori’s daughter, born in 1975. She would have been about 49 or 50 years old if alive. “The body showed signs of advanced decay,” a police spokesperson said, adding that an autopsy will determine the cause of death.
