ASUU Laments FG’s Delay, Demands Tangible Offer
The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has expressed frustration over what it described as the Federal Government’s continued inaction on issues affecting its members. The union is currently in discussions with the government over a review of the 2009 agreement, the last binding deal between both parties, which covers the welfare and working conditions of lecturers. On Thursday, the Minister of State for Education, Tunji Alausa, revealed that a technical committee, chaired by the Permanent Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Education, Abel Enitan, was drafting a refined proposal to present to ASUU. “We’ve decided on a counter-proposal to them. We now close by setting up a high-level technical team to clean up our proposal, come with a clean document,” Alausa explained.
