Kante joins Fenerbahce with Erdogan’s support

France midfielder N’Golo Kante has joined Turkish giants Fenerbahce from Saudi club Al Ittihad, a move the club says was made possible with the support of President Recep Tayyip Erdogan. The World Cup winner, who turns 35 next month, was expected to move to Istanbul earlier, but the transfer was delayed after an administrative error. The length of his contract was not disclosed. Kante, a two time Premier League winner with Leicester City in 2016 and Chelsea in 2017, will now try to strengthen his case for a place in France’s squad for the next World Cup finals. Fenerbahce president Sadettin Saran said the club had successfully completed the transfer of one of world football’s most respected midfielders. He publicly thanked Erdogan for his role in helping secure the deal, saying it would benefit both Fenerbahce and Turkish football. Fenerbahce, […]

Italy rules out ICE police role at Winter Games

Italy has ruled out any operational police role for United States immigration agency ICE during the Milan Cortina 2026 Winter Olympics, following public anger over its planned presence. Interior Minister Matteo Piantedosi told parliament that only the Homeland Security Investigations arm of ICE will be in Italy and that its staff will work inside United States diplomatic missions. He stressed they are not operational agents and have no powers to carry out law enforcement activities on Italian soil. Piantedosi said criticism and fears about their role at the Games were completely unfounded. He explained that HSI focuses on global threats such as the illegal movement of people, goods and weapons and is separate from the part of ICE that leads the controversial immigration crackdown in the United States. The minister noted it is standard practice for countries to send security […]

Nigerian‑American driver Ugochukwu wins Formula Regional Oceania title

Nigerian American racing driver Ugo Ugochukwu has clinched the Formula Regional Oceania Trophy, just three months after parting ways with Formula 1 team McLaren’s junior programme. The 18 year old sealed the championship with four wins from 15 races, finishing 15 points clear of Audi F1 junior Freddie Slater in the final standings. He stood on the podium at every round and only finished outside the top 10 twice, with consistency underpinning his title push. “It’s an amazing feeling honestly to cross the line,” Ugochukwu said after wrapping up the title at the New Zealand Grand Prix, admitting the decisive race “felt way longer than usual.” “I’m just happy to get it done, to get it over with, and get the championship,” he added, paying tribute to his team for a “mega job all year.” His campaign nearly unravelled at […]

Age, eligibility rules blocked my Man United move — Mikel

Former Super Eagles and Chelsea midfielder John Obi Mikel has revealed that strict age and eligibility regulations prevented him from joining Manchester United, despite the Premier League giants’ strong interest when he was a teenager. In an interview with Sky Sports, Mikel said he was just 16 when he spent about a month training at Old Trafford, regularly working with the United first team under Sir Alex Ferguson. The legendary manager, he recalled, was keen to keep him at the club. However, Premier League work‑permit and eligibility rules for non‑European players blocked the move. At the time, foreign players from outside Europe were required to have played in at least 75 per cent of their national team’s recent senior matches to qualify. Mikel had not yet featured for Nigeria’s senior side, so he did not meet the criteria. He added […]

PL officials ‘don’t want’ Man City to win – Rodri

Manchester City midfielder Rodri has launched a scathing attack on Premier League officials, claiming they “don’t want” his team to win the title after a controversial 2–2 draw at Tottenham. City were 2–0 up in north London before the game swung when a goal from Dominic Solanke was allowed to stand, despite the forward appearing to foul defender Marc Guehi before scoring. Solanke later produced a stunning scorpion kick to level the match, leaving City six points behind leaders Arsenal. “I know we won too much and the people don’t want us to win but the referee has to be neutral and for me honestly, it’s not fair,” Rodri told Australian broadcaster Stan Sport. He insisted the incident was “so clear a foul”, saying Solanke “kicked the leg” of Guehi and the ball went in because of the contact. Rodri […]

Liverpool beat Chelsea to £60m Rennes defender Jacquet

Liverpool have beaten Chelsea to the signing of Rennes centre back Jeremy Jacquet in a deal worth up to £60 million, according to British media reports. The 20 year old French Under 21 international will remain at Rennes until the end of the season despite Liverpool’s urgent need for defensive reinforcements. Jacquet had been strongly linked with a move to Chelsea earlier in January but was reportedly discouraged by the fierce competition for places in the London club’s already crowded pool of central defenders. Liverpool, by contrast, are short of options at the back. Captain Virgil van Dijk, 34, and Ibrahima Konate, who is out of contract in the summer, are currently the only fit senior centre backs available to manager Arne Slot, with Joe Gomez and Giovanni Leoni sidelined by injury. Since breaking into Rennes’ first team last season, […]
