Lookman named Best Playmaker as CAF unveils AFCON 2025 awards

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has released the full list of awards and official statistics for the TotalEnergies AFCON 2025 tournament in Morocco. Senegal were crowned champions, Morocco finished runners up and Nigeria took third place after a high scoring campaign.​ Nigeria’s Ademola Lookman was named Best Playmaker of the tournament after providing four assists, capping a brilliant competition for the Super Eagles. Three Super Eagles stars make AFCON 2025 Best XI

Three Super Eagles players – Victor Osimhen, Ademola Lookman and Calvin Bassey – have been named in CAF’s Best XI for the TotalEnergies AFCON Morocco 2025. The list was released by CAF’s Technical Study Group after the tournament, where Nigeria finished third.​ Senegal and champions Morocco dominated the selection with four players each in the Team of the Tournament. Veteran Bosnian striker Edin Dzeko has signed for Bundesliga 2 side Schalke 04 on a six month contract running until the end of the current season. Prosperity Cup seals Barcelona partnership for 2026 edition

Organisers of the Bayelsa Governor’s Football Tournament, known as the Prosperity Cup, have announced a partnership with Spanish giants Barcelona FC ahead of the 2026 edition. The deal is aimed at raising technical standards and boosting grassroots football development in Bayelsa State.​ Tournament Director General Ono Akpe said at a world press conference that Barcelona coaches will run an international coaching clinic in Yenagoa from February 23 to 25, 2026. CAF vows action after chaotic AFCON final in Rabat

The Confederation of African Football has condemned the chaotic scenes that marred the Africa Cup of Nations final between Morocco and Senegal in Rabat and has promised appropriate action against those found guilty.
