Fast rising singer Fola has opened up on his humble beginnings, recalling how he worked in his father’s betting shop before his music career started to gain attention. He said his passion for music began in high school, where he played in a band even though he lacked the resources to pursue it professionally at the time.
Fola explained that after finishing school, the struggle became tougher because he did not even own a phone. According to him, he had to rely on a friend’s phone to handle basic things related to his music and personal life.
Seeing that opportunities were limited in Ibadan, he decided to work at a small betting shop owned by his father. He took on roles as both manager and cashier so he could save money and gradually support his music dreams.
Fola later relocated from Ibadan to Lagos, a move he described as the turning point in his journey. In Lagos, he met the late singer Mohbad, whom he credits with opening important doors and helping to shape his career.
Through Mohbad, he was introduced to Bella Shmurda, and this connection led to a collaboration in 2022. Fola said they recorded a song together without any formal paperwork, describing the experience as “just great”.
He noted that the gap between their profiles at the time was wide, yet Bella still agreed to work with him without asking for any financial benefit. Fola said this gesture of support is something he continues to appreciate deeply.
Looking back on his journey from managing a bet shop to collaborating with established stars, Fola said he is grateful for how far he has come. He thanked God for his progress and for the people who believed in him along the way.
