Vice President Kashim Shettima has condemned the bomb attack that killed about five people and injured several others at a mosque in Gamboru Market, Maiduguri, Borno State, calling it a despicable assault on innocent citizens and national peace.
In a statement issued on Thursday by his media aide, Stanley Nkwocha, Shettima said President Bola Ahmed Tinubu ordered an immediate boost in security operations in Borno to prevent further attacks and ensure those behind the bombing are arrested.
He explained that additional tactical security teams are being deployed to the Gamboru Market area of Maiduguri to track and apprehend the perpetrators of the terror attack.
The Vice President warned that the Federal Government will not tolerate any attempt to undermine the peace and security of Nigeria and stressed that security agencies are working around the clock to bring the attackers to justice.
Shettima expressed confidence in the country’s security system, saying ongoing operations will not only lead to the arrest of those responsible but also reveal the full details of how the attack was planned and carried out.
He extended condolences to the Borno State Government, residents of the affected area and families of the victims, assuring them of Federal Government support during this difficult period.
According to him, the attackers will face the full weight of the law, and the government is determined that such acts of terrorism do not go unpunished.
Shettima reaffirmed that the Tinubu administration remains firmly committed to national security, noting that protecting lives and property is a core duty of government under the Constitution.
He recalled that since President Tinubu assumed office in 2023, the administration has consistently restated its commitment to safeguarding the security, unity and stability of the country.
The Vice President added that the Federal Government will continue to provide security agencies with the resources and support they need to defeat terrorism in all its forms.
He also said the Federal Government is working closely with state governments and local security outfits to strengthen the protection of vulnerable communities and critical infrastructure across the North East and other parts of Nigeria.
