Rail Licence Not for New Track Construction SWDC

Article arrow_drop_down

The South West Development Commission has explained that its newly secured rail licence does not allow it to build new rail lines.

The commission said the licence is meant for rail operations, not construction. It will allow the agency to run passenger and freight services on existing rail corridors.

Officials said the approval is part of efforts to improve transport links across the South West and support trade, movement, and economic growth in the region.

The clarification comes after some reports suggested that the licence would give the commission power to construct new tracks. The commission said that is not the case.

According to the agency, the licence will help it work with existing rail infrastructure while exploring ways to expand transport services in the region.

The commission said its goal is to support regional development by making travel and cargo movement easier for businesses and passengers.
