PDP Defeats APC at Defence Minister’s Polling Unit in Jigawa By-Election

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) defeated the All Progressives Congress (APC) at the polling unit of Defence Minister Alhaji Muhammad Badaru Abubakar during Saturday’s by-election in Jigawa State. At Unit 001, Babura Kofar Arewa Primary School in the Garki–Babura federal constituency, the PDP secured 308 votes against APC’s 112. The minister, a former governor of Jigawa and senior APC chieftain, cast his vote under heavy security presence but declined to speak to journalists before leaving the venue. Security operatives from the Nigeria Police, Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Immigration Service, and other agencies were stationed across polling units in Babura and Garki LGAs to ensure order. EFCC Detains Tambuwal Over Alleged ₦189bn Withdrawals

Former Sokoto State governor and current senator, Waziri Aminu Tambuwal, is in the custody of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) over what the agency described as “suspicious” withdrawals totaling ₦189.15 billion during his tenure. Tambuwal arrived at the EFCC headquarters in Abuja around 11:30 a.m. on Monday and was immediately ushered into interrogation, with sources indicating he would spend the night in detention. According to EFCC investigators, the withdrawals were made incrementally over six of Tambuwal’s eight years in office, allegedly from three key state accounts — the Federation Account Allocation Committee (FAAC) account, the Government House account, and the Secretary to the State Government account. Northern Politicians Launch Forum to Shape 2027 Election Strategy

A group of prominent northern political figures outside government has formed a new platform aimed at unifying the region’s stance ahead of Nigeria’s 2027 presidential election. Former Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF) Babachir Lawal revealed the initiative on Monday during an appearance on Channels Television’s Politics Today. The group, known as the Nigerian People’s Consultative Political Forum (North), brings together influential northern politicians who are not currently in public office.
