Youths in Plateau State have called for justice and stronger security action after about 50 people were killed in a week of renewed violence.
The youths said the killings have left many communities in fear and deep sorrow, while families continue to mourn their loved ones. They described the situation as unacceptable and demanded urgent government intervention.
They also renewed their call for state police, saying the current security structure has not done enough to stop repeated attacks in the state. According to them, local communities need a more responsive security system that can act quickly when violence starts.
The youths urged both the federal and state governments to identify the attackers and bring them to justice. They said the cycle of killings must end so that people can live safely on their farms and in their villages.
The repeated attacks have continued to raise concern across Plateau, where residents say insecurity has disrupted daily life and destroyed many communities.

US military launches new wave of strikes on Iran
The United States military has launched another wave of strikes on Iran, deepening the latest round of tensions between the two countries. According to reports, the strikes were carried out after Iran attacked commercial ships in the Strait of Hormuz, a key waterway for global oil trade. The US said the operation was aimed at degrading Iranian capabilities used to threaten shipping and regional security. Officials added that the strikes were part of a broader effort to protect American forces and international commercial vessels. Iran has not publicly confirmed the full extent of the damage, but the renewed attacks are expected to increase pressure in the Middle East and raise concerns about a wider conflict. The latest military action comes at a time of already high tension in the region, with both sides accusing each other of aggression.

Appeal court bars INEC from recognising Mark-led ADC congresses
The appeal court has barred the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, from recognising congresses organised by the David Mark-led leadership of the African Democratic Congress, ADC. The court said INEC should not take part in or give recognition to any state congresses arranged by committees set up by the party’s caretaker leadership. It held that the responsibility for conducting state congresses belongs to the elected state executive committees of the party, not the national caretaker leadership. The court also ruled that the tenure of the ADC’s state working committees and state executive committees remains valid until properly organised congresses are held and a national convention is conducted. In its ruling, the court said neither the Nigerian Constitution nor the party’s constitution gives the caretaker interim national working committee led by David Mark the power to appoint committees for state congresses.
