A small multi‑engine plane crashed into traffic on a busy Florida highway during an emergency landing, injuring a woman in a car on the road. Authorities said the Beechcraft 55 twin‑engine aircraft came down on the southbound lanes of Interstate 95 near Cocoa in Brevard County on Monday night.
Florida Highway Patrol reported that the 27‑year‑old pilot attempted an emergency landing after a double engine failure. As the plane descended, it struck a Toyota Camry being driven in the center lane, leaving the 57‑year‑old driver with minor injuries.
Rescue officials said two people were on board the plane and both escaped without serious injury. The injured driver was transported to hospital, and no other vehicles were reported damaged in the incident.
Flight records show the plane, registered to Tailwinds Flying LLC of Merritt Island, took off from Merritt Island and flew in circles over Brevard and Volusia counties for more than an hour before the crash. Data indicated its altitude and speed dropped steadily until it turned toward I‑95 and came down on the highway.
Brevard County Fire Rescue and state troopers closed parts of the interstate for several hours while crews cleared the wreckage and investigated the scene. The Federal Aviation Administration has opened an investigation into the engine failure and the circumstances of the emergency landing.
