Nollywood producers, led by the Association of Movie Producers of Nigeria (AMP) , have united with the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) and the Nigerian Copyright Commission (NCC) to launch a groundbreaking initiative against digital copyright theft . The partnership, announced at Abuja’s Bank of Industry Tower, positions Nigeria as one of four African nations selected for WIPO’s flagship anti-piracy project.
The Piracy Crisis in Nollywood
Digital piracy costs Nigeria’s creative sector billions annually, with unauthorized distribution of films eroding revenue and stifling innovation. AMP President Dr. Queen Blessing Ebigieson highlighted the urgency:
“This project gives us tools to fight back. Independent filmmakers, not just big studios, must benefit from stronger protections.”

The WIPO-backed project focuses on four pillars:

The Federal Government has warned Nigerians to beware of fake diplomatic recruitment schemes and fraudulent ambassadorial offers circulating online and offline. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs said criminal groups are using fake diplomatic titles, recruitment letters and promises of jobs in foreign missions to defraud and exploit unsuspecting citizens.
