Kwankwaso and Governor Yusuf split over APC defection move

Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf’s plan to defect from the New Nigeria Peoples Party to the All Progressives Congress has widened his rift with NNPP leader Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso and split the party’s structures in Kano. As Yusuf marked his 63rd birthday in Abuja with top officials and allies, Kwankwaso stayed back in Kano, opening a loyalty register for office holders and holding meetings with Kwankwasiyya loyalists to confirm who still stands with him. The governor is said to enjoy the backing of all 40 members of the Kano State House of Assembly and the 44 local government chairmen, positioning him strongly for a move to the APC. However, NNPP federal lawmakers from Kano are divided, with some already crossing to the APC while others, such as Umar Mukhtari Zakari of Tarauni, openly oppose the defection plan. Several […]

Dangote Refinery denies shutdown rumours, says petrol output remains strong

Dangote Petroleum Refinery has rejected claims that it shut down its petrol processing operations, insisting the plant is running at scale and able to supply between 40 million and 50 million litres of petrol daily. The company said recent routine maintenance on some units did not halt overall production and accused some marketers of spreading rumours to justify higher pump and gantry prices. According to refinery officials and a formal company statement, the facility recently delivered about 43.3 million litres of petrol to the Nigerian market in a single day, with output on January 4 reaching 50 million litres and 48 million litres evacuated via its gantry. Dangote added that current stock levels are enough to cover more than 20 days of national consumption, saying this should calm fears about shortages or a production halt. The refinery noted that while […]

US never targeted me in Sokoto airstrikes, says Gumi

Kaduna based Islamic cleric Sheikh Ahmad Gumi has dismissed reports that he was targeted by the United States during recent joint Nigeria US airstrikes on terrorist camps in Sokoto State. He described the claims as fake news, explaining that people had misinterpreted an old video in which he spoke about threats to his life more than a decade ago. Gumi said the viral clip being shared online referred to an incident in August 2012, when he was allegedly marked for assassination by Boko Haram near his residence. According to him, two suspected attackers died after the explosive device they were carrying reportedly detonated before they could reach him, and the episode had nothing to do with the latest air operations in Sokoto. In a statement posted on his official social media page, the cleric insisted he never suggested that US […]
