95 princes, princesses show interest in Awujale stool

At least 95 princes and princesses have formally indicated interest in becoming the next Awujale and paramount ruler of Ijebuland. The stool became vacant following the death of Oba Sikiru Kayode Adetona in July 2025 after about 65 years on the throne.​ The Fusengbuwa ruling house, which is next in line to produce the new Awujale, has begun the internal process of screening and shortlisting interested members. Army troops rescue 18 passengers from sea pirates off Cameroon coast

Troops of the Nigerian Army’s 13 Brigade have rescued 18 passengers, including two infants, after suspected sea pirates hijacked a passenger boat on the Nigeria Cameroon route. The attack happened on January 11 near Kombo Fishing Port within Cameroonian waters while the boat was travelling from Nigeria to Cameroon.​ Army spokesperson Major Yemi Sokoya said the pirates, operating in two speed boats and a wooden boat, seized the passenger vessel and abducted all those on board. NDLEA nabs 80 year old ex convict, finds tramadol hidden in full body mannequins

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency has arrested an 80 year old ex convict, Jeremiah Isaiah Nkanta, for allegedly returning to the illicit drug trade barely three years after his last conviction. He was picked up at his home in Mmanta Abak village, Abak Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State, where officers found 5.7 kilograms of skunk, a potent strain of cannabis.​ Nkanta was first arrested by the NDLEA on December 14, 2022, prosecuted and sentenced to two years in prison for dealing in drugs. Nigerian Army warns public about fake social media accounts impersonating COAS

The Nigerian Army has warned the public about fake social media accounts created by fraudsters claiming to represent the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu. The alert was issued in a statement on Friday by Army spokesperson Colonel Apollonia Anele.​ Anele clarified that the Chief of Army Staff does not operate any official social media account on any platform. COAS charges troops on discipline, professionalism and improved welfare
