AON Issues Lifetime Flight Ban on Passenger for Assaulting Ibom Air Crew

The Airline Operators of Nigeria (AON) has imposed a lifetime ban on Comfort Emmanson, prohibiting her from flying with any of its member airlines on both domestic and international routes. AON’s spokesperson, Prof. Obiora Okonkwo, announced the decision on Monday following an incident aboard Ibom Air flight Q9 303 from Uyo to Lagos on August 10, 2025. According to AON, Emmanson refused to comply with safety instructions on mobile phone use, then physically assaulted crew members and attempted to use a fire extinguisher as a weapon. The association described the case as one of the year’s most severe examples of unruly passenger behaviour, saying it posed serious risks to crew, passengers, and the safety of the aircraft. Effective immediately, Emmanson has been placed on AON’s “No Fly” list indefinitely. The association warned that any future incidents of disruptive behaviour would […]

FG Deploys Passport Printers to New York, Atlanta to Ease Processing Delays

Nigerian diplomatic missions in the United States have installed passport printers in New York and Atlanta in a bid to reduce processing delays, the Acting Ambassador to the U.S., Samson Itegboje, announced on Sunday. Washington, D.C., now operates two printers, while New York and Atlanta each have one — a move expected to end the previous reliance on Washington for all passport production. Itegboje made the announcement during a joint virtual town hall meeting involving the Nigerian Embassy in Washington and the Consulates General in New York and Atlanta. The four-hour meeting drew hundreds of participants and addressed issues ranging from passport and visa services to investment opportunities, trade, and Nigeria’s image abroad. He noted that many delays arise from last-minute applications by Nigerians seeking urgent service. The meeting, he said, was aimed at listening to citizens’ concerns and finding […]

Women in Benue Protested After Suspected Herdsmen Kill Farmers in Yelwata

Three farmers were killed and three others critically injured in an early morning attack by suspected herdsmen in Yelwata, Benue State, on Monday. The incident triggered a protest by women in the community, who accused soldiers of failing to respond promptly, leaving police officers and local youths to repel the attackers. The protesters blocked the federal highway linking Benue and Nasarawa states, demanding the withdrawal of soldiers from their communities. Former government official, Matthew Mnyam, confirmed the killings and injuries, adding that efforts by community leaders to persuade the women to end the protest were unsuccessful. Guma Local Government Chairman, Maurice Orwough, also confirmed the incident and appealed for calm. Yelwata has faced repeated violence in recent months. In June, an overnight attack in the area left dozens dead and displaced more than 3,000 residents, with official figures putting the […]

Osimhen’s Big-Club Future Hinges on World Cup Qualification – Oliseh

Nigerian football icon Sunday Oliseh has warned that Victor Osimhen's aspirations of joining an elite European club could be compromised if the Super Eagles fail to qualify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup. The former national team captain made these remarks while analyzing Osimhen's recent permanent transfer to Galatasaray, following unsuccessful moves to Premier League giants Arsenal, Chelsea, and Manchester United this summer. "Victor's immediate focus must be ensuring Nigeria's World Cup qualification," Oliseh stated in a social media commentary. "A strong tournament performance would make top clubs overlook current concerns and reignite interest in him." The 26-year-old striker's move to Turkey came as surprise after his stellar 2023/24 season with Napoli, where he scored 25 goals across all competitions. Oliseh emphasized that Nigeria's current fourth-place standing in Group C of the qualifiers – behind South Africa, Rwanda, and Benin […]

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has apprehended Prophet Adefolusho Aanu Olasele, founder of The Turn of Mercy Church, for allegedly orchestrating cross-border drug shipments into Nigeria. Fuel Subsidy Funded by Borrowing Was Retrogressive Policy – Ex-Governor Okowa

Former Delta State Governor Senator Ifeanyi Okowa has described Nigeria's past practice of financing fuel subsidies through borrowed funds as "retrogressive economic policy." The ex-governor made these remarks on Friday while receiving the "Living Legend" award from the Delta State chapter of the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN) in Asaba. Okowa praised President Bola Tinubu's decision to remove the fuel subsidy, noting its positive impact on government finances. "The benefits are already visible in the increased allocations to all tiers of government," he stated. "During my tenure, we often had to bail out local governments to pay salaries. Today, they receive enough to meet obligations and even execute projects." While acknowledging the reforms' success in boosting statutory allocations, the former governor cautioned that more work remains to fully stabilize the economy. He urged local governments to utilize their enhanced […]
