Former Manchester United midfielder Nicky Butt has urged his old club to go all out to sign Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen this summer. Butt believes the Galatasaray forward has the qualities needed to lead the line and take United’s attack to a higher level.
Manchester United signed Benjamin Sesko last summer, but Butt is not convinced the young Slovenian can carry the team’s goal scoring burden on his own. He acknowledged Sesko’s potential, movement, and work rate, but said the club still needs a more complete and proven centre forward.
Butt described Osimhen as powerful, quick, strong, and capable of scoring different types of goals. He highlighted the Nigerian’s ability to run in behind, compete in the air, and hold up play as reasons he would fit well in the Premier League.
Osimhen, who joined Galatasaray from Napoli in a record deal, has scored 19 goals and provided several assists in 29 appearances this season across all competitions. His form has attracted interest from top European clubs, with Manchester United regularly mentioned among potential suitors.
Butt also argued that players from the Turkish Super Lig are more realistic transfer targets than some stars in the top five European leagues. He said recruitment should focus on top quality players who are actually gettable, rather than chasing names that could cost around 120 million pounds.
However, reports point out that Osimhen is on a lucrative contract in Turkey, with high wages and bonuses that could complicate any potential deal. This means United would have to weigh both the transfer fee and the striker’s salary demands if they decide to move for him.
Despite those challenges, Butt insists that signing a top class number nine like Osimhen is essential if Manchester United want to compete at the highest level again. He believes a player of that profile would not only score goals but also push existing forwards to improve.
