Bayern Munich manager Vincent Kompany has revealed that he rejected several offers to work as a television pundit during the upcoming World Cup, saying he wants to use the break to rest and spend time with his family.
Broadcasters in England reportedly approached the Belgian coach ahead of the tournament, which will be staged across the United States, Canada and Mexico, but he made it clear he had no intention of taking on extra work.
“No chance, no chance,” Kompany replied, cutting in before a reporter could even finish a question about the offers. “What am I supposed to do, work as a TV pundit on holiday? I won’t have a family left in Munich next year,” he joked at a press conference before Wednesday’s DFB Pokal semi final against Bayer Leverkusen.
He doubled down in a lighter tone, repeating that he would not sacrifice his family time for punditry duties during the off season. Reports in England say media interest has been driven in part by Kompany’s insight into England captain Harry Kane, whom he coaches at Bayern, and by his previous stints as an analyst with major broadcasters.
Kompany’s stance comes at the end of a demanding campaign in which Bayern sealed a record extending 35th Bundesliga title and now turn their focus to domestic and European cup competitions. The Bavarian giants face Leverkusen in the German Cup semi final as they chase a return to the final for the first time since 2020.
However, the coach must make do without injured trio Serge Gnabry, Lennart Karl and Tom Bischof. He is banking on in form playmaker Jamal Musiala, who is nearing peak condition after a long layoff and played a decisive role in the Champions League quarter final win over Real Madrid. Musiala came off the bench in that tie to win a booking from Eduardo Camavinga with a dazzling run and set up a crucial late equaliser.
Bayern also have a high profile Champions League semi final against Paris Saint Germain on the horizon, with the two legs scheduled for April 28 and May 6. That congested run of fixtures underlines why Kompany says he needs a genuine break when the World Cup arrives, rather than swapping the dugout for a TV studio.

Talent is not enough in music industry, says Tiwa Savage
Afrobeats superstar Tiwa Savage says talent alone is not enough to succeed in today’s music industry, stressing that opportunity, access and industry knowledge are just as important. The 46 year old singer made the point while speaking about the vision behind her Tiwa Savage Music Foundation, an initiative created to support emerging African creatives with training, exposure and professional guidance. “Music changed my life but talent alone isn’t enough especially when access is limited,” she said, adding that many gifted youths struggle because they lack structure and support. Savage said the foundation, run in partnership with the prestigious Berklee College of Music, is designed to “open people’s eyes to the full scope of what’s possible in music”, beyond just singing or performing. Over 100 participants are set to showcase what they have learned at a grand finale concert in Lagos […]

How I learned special effects in my dreams – Hakeem Effect
Popular Nollywood special effects artist Onilogbo Hakeem, widely known as Hakeem Effect, has revealed that he first learned his craft through a series of vivid dreams. Hakeem, regarded as one of the industry’s leading prosthetics and special effects creators, said the journey began when a mysterious tall, white figure appeared to him in a dream, placed a hand on his shoulder and asked him to follow. He recalled that the figure asked what talent he had, and when he replied that he could draw, the stranger promised to “announce” him to the world if he was willing to follow. According to Hakeem, the same dream kept recurring as he joined a church choir and later a drama group, where he was unexpectedly assigned to provide special effects despite not knowing what the term meant at the time. Atletico Madrid suffer fresh injury scare ahead Arsenal UCL showdown
Atletico Madrid have suffered a new injury concern after midfielder Pablo Barrios limped off during their 3–2 La Liga win over Athletic Club just days before their Champions League semi final showdown with Arsenal. Barrios was restored to the starting lineup on Saturday as Diego Simeone rotated his squad following the recent defeat to Elche, with the coach clearly managing minutes ahead of the European tie. However, the youngster was unable to complete the game and had to be substituted shortly before the hour mark, making way for Johnny Cardoso. The club later confirmed that Barrios felt muscular discomfort in his left thigh, with further medical tests scheduled to determine the extent of the problem. The manner of his withdrawal and his visible discomfort on the pitch have raised serious doubts over his availability for both legs of the semi […]

Osimhen cleared to face Fenerbahçe in title defining Istanbul derby
Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen has been cleared to play in Sunday’s high stakes Istanbul derby between Galatasaray and Fenerbahçe after concerns over his protective arm brace were dismissed by Turkish football authorities. Osimhen featured in Galatasaray’s midweek defeat to Gençlerbirliği wearing the brace, which he has been using for protection following a recent arm injury. Fenerbahçe subsequently lodged an official complaint with the Turkish Football Federation (TFF), arguing that the gear could pose a danger to opposing players. After reviewing the case, the federation rejected Fenerbahçe’s protest and confirmed that the brace had been medically approved. Officials said all necessary consultations were carried out before Osimhen was authorised to use the support in competitive matches. Fenerbahçe’s unease is understood to be tied to the importance of the derby in the tight Super Lig title race. Galatasaray currently hold a […]

Kenya’s Sabastian Sawe smashes marathon barrier with historic sub two hour run in London
Kenyan distance star Sabastian Sawe has become the first athlete in history to run an official marathon in under two hours, winning the London Marathon in a stunning time of 1:59:30. Sawe, the defending champion, broke clear of Ethiopia’s Yomif Kejelcha in the closing stages after the pair had battled shoulder to shoulder deep into the race. Kejelcha, competing in his debut marathon, also dipped under the magical barrier with 1:59:41, while Uganda’s Jacob Kiplimo finished third in 2:00:28. All three men ran faster than the previous world record of 2:00:35 set by the late Kelvin Kiptum in Chicago in 2023. “We started the race well and at the end of the race I was feeling strong,” Sawe said after the finish. “Finally reaching the line, I saw the time and I was so excited to see I had run […]

Sawe makes history with sub-two marathon
The London Marathon witnessed a historic breakthrough as Sabastian Sawe delivered an extraordinary performance that redefined marathon running. The 30-year-old Kenyan claimed victory with a time of 1:59:30, becoming the first athlete to complete a marathon in under two hours during an official competitive race. His time beats the previous record set by Kelvin Kiptum in 2023 (2:00:35) by more than a minute. Before this, only Eliud Kipchoge had broken the two-hour barrier in 2019, but that performance was achieved under controlled conditions and was not officially recognized. Sawe’s run is therefore the first sub-two-hour marathon in a standard race setting. Sawe was already on record pace at the halfway mark, passing in 1:00:29. He maintained strong momentum in the second half and made a decisive move in the final 10 kilometers to secure his lead. Yomif Kejelcha was the […]

Rangers target Blackburn’s Alebiosu to fill Tavernier void
Scottish giants Rangers have identified Nigerian defender Ryan Alebiosu as a leading candidate to replace long serving captain James Tavernier at right back. With Tavernier widely expected to leave Ibrox at the end of the season, the club is actively scouring the market for defensive reinforcements and has zeroed in on Alebiosu following his impressive performances in England. The 23 year old full back is under contract with Blackburn Rovers until 2028 and has also attracted interest from Serie A side Genoa, Bundesliga outfit Wolfsburg and Premier League club Everton. Blackburn’s uncertain league position could influence negotiations, with reports suggesting relegation fears might force the club to consider a lower fee than originally expected. As Rangers prepare for a new era beyond Tavernier, Alebiosu’s energy, versatility and development potential make him a strong option to fill the looming void on […]

EPL: Arsenal eye return to top spot, Spurs fight for survival
Arsenal can reclaim top spot in the Premier League this weekend while Tottenham Hotspur face a desperate scrap for survival at the bottom of the table. Mikel Arteta’s side go into the round level with Manchester City on 70 points after 33 matches, with both teams boasting a goal difference of +37. City lead only on goals scored and are on FA Cup duty against Southampton, giving Arsenal the chance to move back above them when they host Newcastle on Saturday evening. The Gunners saw a nine point advantage evaporate and lost 2–1 to City at the Etihad last weekend, but they are viewed as having the easier run in on paper. If they beat or even draw with Newcastle, they will return to the summit, and they also play before City again next week, meaning they could be six […]
