Khamenei adviser Mohsen Rezaei warned on Wednesday that any renewed US attack on Iran would trigger a massive “deluge of missiles and drones” in retaliation, escalating tensions between Tehran and Washington amid ongoing confrontations in the Middle East.
Rezaei, a former chief commander of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), emphasized Iran’s readiness to respond forcefully to any military aggression against the Islamic Republic. The adviser said Iran would launch not just missiles but also advanced drones in a coordinated barrage that would overwhelm enemy defenses.
The warning comes amid heightened tensions between Iran and the United States over Iran’s nuclear program and a potential US naval blockade. Rezaei has previously warned that Iran would attack if a US naval blockade continues beyond a certain timeframe, describing the IRGC’s use of “highly cost-effective drones” and fast boats as key tools of deterrence.
“The United States is coming toward us in darkness, while we monitor every move they make,” Rezaei said in a previous statement about US naval movements, adding that Iran is tracking all US military movements despite Washington’s attempt to approach “in the dark.”
Iran’s top negotiator and parliament speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf also cast negotiations with Washington as a way to make the United States accept realities created on the battlefield, saying Tehran gains concessions through military pressure rather than dialogue. “We take concessions not through talks, but with missiles; in negotiations, we only make them understand this,” Ghalibaf said on X.
Rezaei has also threatened that the Islamic Republic could withdraw from the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) if pressured further, and warned that Iran would deliver a “hard, painful and unprecedented” response to the United States if US forces entered the Persian Gulf or acted against Iran’s position in the Strait of Hormuz.
US War Secretary Pete Hegseth has warned the Islamic Republic that it would face American forces if it did not accept the deal on the table. Speaking during a visit to US troops aboard the USS Boxer in Singapore, Hegseth referred to President Donald Trump’s remarks at a Cabinet meeting, where Trump said Tehran must either accept the proposed agreement or face military action.
