Football icon David Beckham is set to receive a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, as announced by organizers on Tuesday, coinciding with the United States’ preparations to host the World Cup.
The unveiling ceremony will occur on June 12 at 10:00 am PT at 6819 Hollywood Boulevard, featuring film star Tom Cruise and Beckham’s wife, Victoria Beckham, who transitioned from pop music to fashion design, as special guests to unveil the star.
This event will honor the British midfielder just hours before the inaugural match on American soil for this year’s World Cup, co-hosted by Mexico, Canada, and the United States. The timing makes the honor particularly significant as the US prepares to host the global tournament.
Ana Martinez of the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce remarked that Beckham’s addition to the Walk of Fame in the Sports Entertainment category comes at a pivotal moment as the United States prepares to host the World Cup. She emphasized that Beckham’s contributions to increasing soccer’s visibility in America and his enduring impact on sports, entertainment, and global culture render this honor especially meaningful.
Beckham was selected for the Hollywood Walk of Fame Class of 2025 in the Sports Entertainment category alongside baseball legend Orel Hershiser. The selections were chosen from hundreds of nominations by the Walk of Fame Selection Panel of the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce and ratified by the Chamber’s Board of Directors.
The Hollywood star will become the 2,849th star on the Walk of Fame. Recipients have two years to schedule star ceremonies from the date of selection before the offer expires, though dates are usually announced ten days prior to dedication on the official website.
Beckham’s inclusion came after his Netflix documentary “Beckham” was well-received globally, prompting Hollywood to officially acknowledge the football icon months after the series aired. The 49-year-old former England midfielder previously worried his image might suffer following the documentary’s release but instead gained renewed international acclaim.
He joins other big-name honourees in the 2025 class, including legendary singer Prince (posthumous), American punk rock band Green Day, actress Jane Fonda, actor Alan Cumming, Jessica Chastain, Colin Farrell, and many others across Motion Pictures, Television, Recording, Live Theatre, Radio, and Sports Entertainment categories.
