Gov Idris Gives N50M to Fire Victims
A deadly fire recently hit the Birnin Kebbi Timber Market in Kara, Kebbi State , destroying goods worth over N192.7 million .
Governor Nasir Idris responded quickly by donating N50 million to help affected traders recover.
He was on Hajj in Saudi Arabia when the fire happened but returned home and visited the site to see the damage.
He also gave an additional N10 million from his own money , showing strong support for the victims.
Governor Visits Scene, Meets Affected Traders
After returning from Hajj, Governor Idris went straight to the burnt market.
He met with victims, listened to their stories, and promised government support.
“We cannot sit back while our people suffer,” he said.
He encouraged them to stay strong and assured them the state would continue to support recovery efforts.
Nine Merchants Affected by Fire
The fire hit hard, affecting nine timber traders who lost goods and equipment.
The Timber Market Association confirmed the losses and praised the governor’s quick response.
They said the support gives victims hope and shows leadership during crisis.
Funds Will Be Shared Quickly – Market Chairman
Bello Dansambo , chairman of the Timber Market Association, received the donation on behalf of the traders.
He thanked the governor and promised to share the money fast and fairly .
“This support lifts our spirits. The governor really cares about us.”
Dansambo also appreciated the personal N10 million gesture, calling it a rare act of compassion from a public officer.

The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has attributed ongoing power interruptions in parts of the Greater Accra and Western regions to separate technical faults affecting its distribution network. Three Rescued as Rescue Teams Search for Trapped Victims After North Industrial Area Building Collapse
Rescue teams are continuing efforts to locate and extract individuals believed to be trapped beneath the rubble of a collapsed building in Accra’s North Industrial Area following a structural failure that has left several people injured. US introduces $20,000 visa bond for Nigerians, others over overstay concerns
The United States says the new rule is aimed at curbing visa overstays and improving compliance among visitors from countries flagged for high overstay rates and weak identity or document verification systems. Ban on sale of sachet alcoholic drinks remains – NAFDAC
NAFDAC says the crackdown on manufacturers and distributors of sachet alcohol has already begun, with arrests and seizures recorded across the South East zone. The NAFDAC Zonal Director, South East, Dr Festus Ukadike, disclosed this in an interview in Enugu, adding that the next phase is to mop up remaining sachet alcoholic products still in the market. He stressed that businesses would not be adversely affected because companies can still produce alcohol in bottles of 200ml and above.
