Iyabo Ojo recalls how Funke Akindele’s mum protected her kids

Actress Iyabo Ojo has paid a warm tribute to the late mother of her colleague Funke Akindele, recalling how she cared for and protected her children Festus and Priscilla during a critical period in 2004.

Her message came after Funke Akindele marked the third anniversary of her mother’s passing with an emotional Instagram post, describing her as a selfless queen whose teachings and discipline shaped her life and career. Akindele also thanked her late mother for giving her and her siblings quality education and strong values that still guide them.

In the comment section, Iyabo Ojo confirmed Akindele’s tribute with her own personal experience of the late doctor’s kindness and professionalism. She recounted how the woman’s timely medical intervention, care and prayers helped avert what could have been a tragic situation involving her two children.

According to Ojo, Akindele’s mother went beyond her duties as a doctor to reassure her and ensure the safety and wellbeing of the children at a time of fear and uncertainty. She noted that the late doctor combined medical expertise with deep spirituality, constantly praying and offering words of encouragement.

Ojo added that even when she and Funke Akindele had disagreements, the late woman never stopped reaching out to her. She continued to call, pray for her and speak peace over their relationship, proving herself to be a true mother figure to all around her.

Describing her as a remarkable woman, Iyabo Ojo said Akindele’s mother left a lasting legacy of kindness, dedication and faith in everyone who met her. She affirmed that she would always love and remember her and prayed for her to keep resting in peace.
