On the evening of May 21, 2025, two Israeli embassy staff members, Yaron Lischinsky and Sarah Milgrim, were tragically shot and killed outside the Capital Jewish Museum in Washington D.C. The suspect, Elias Rodriguez, a 30-year-old from Chicago, was apprehended at the scene.

Details of the Incident
The victims were leaving an event hosted by the American Jewish Committee when the shooting occurred around 9:08 p.m. Rodriguez reportedly shouted “Free, free Palestine” during his arrest. Authorities are investigating the attack as a potential hate crime.

Victims’ Background
Lischinsky and Milgrim were a couple planning to get engaged during an upcoming trip to Jerusalem. Lischinsky worked in the embassy’s political department, while Milgrim was part of the public diplomacy team.

Reactions and Condemnations
Israeli and U.S. officials condemned the attack. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu described it as a “horrific, antisemitic” act. U.S. leaders, including President Donald Trump and Secretary of State Marco Rubio, expressed condolences and emphasized the need to combat antisemitic violence.
